The good, bad and ugly of Selfies. Doing better selfies.

We're all selfie-obsessed! The digital mobile phone has turned Selfies into a necessary component of socializing but definitely not an art.
Did you know that over 17 million self-photos are uploaded to social media every week - with those individuals over-55 taking more pics than those aged 18-24. If that many pics are being uploaded imagine how many are being taken daily. Astonishing.

With a new year ahead of us and Selfies an obsession we're in for quite a year of dropping our phones, bumping into people or falling over anyone in our way to get that very special selfie.

These examples will help you take better Selfies and avoid walking into traffic. Photo 1 through 4 were taken in the same room within a 10 minute timeframe. You can see how direction can impact the resulting photo. Photo 5 was in a meeting room with overhead lighting.

Photo 1 ~  Make sure the light is toward or at least a 45 degree angle to your face. This photo was  facing the light straight on indoors near a large panorama window.

Photo 2 ~  Do not face bright sun without some sort of shade. No one wants squinty eyes or blasts of bright white washout.

Photo 3 & 4 ~  Selfies with light at your rear will completely shade your face so it really isn't worth taking.

Photo 5 ~ Hold the camera at eye level or just slightly raised if you have a double chin. This shot is simply awful. No one wants to see under your eye lids. Save a pose like this for Halloween.

Also, hold the camera still to avoid that blurry cocktail lounge affect!

With or without the 'rules' when you take a Selfie remember that it's the memory that counts but at least you now have some tips for making better memories.

When a selfie isn't enough have your portrait take by a professional photographer who has the inside track on quality, creativity and meeting deadlines that fit YOUR schedule. Set-up your photoshoot today.

I hope that you find this little tidbit helpful. If you enjoy the articles, I’d love to hear what you liked best. Please feel free to pass these tips on to anyone you know who might enjoy them!.
When you're ready for your next executive headshot or personal branding photo session search out the photographer that will best meet your needs and personality.  If you're in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area I'd appreciate a message from you to talk about how you want your headshot to reflect who you are.
