Seasonal Portrait Ideas

With the Arizona heat on the rise I thought a quick list of tips to avoid the blistering sun would be in order.
My first suggestion is to plan and arrange for any photoshoot that you want to happen in particular outside today. The type of photo sessions you may be considering include:
  • Senior portraits: What kid doesn't want to have a unique series of photos to show off and look back on. Today's senior portraits are a far cry from the typical studio headshot in color and black and white!
  • Family Reunion: I once did a reunion of 30 family members in August, in the sun at high noon, no shade whatsoever and had everyone keep their eyes closed until I said 'smile.' Ultimately it worked out but it was HOT. Families don't often together in the same place at the same time so you'll want the best experience possible. Family reunion portraits are such a wonderful remembrance for the years to come.

  • Headshots: while most clients want their photos taken in studio there are many who want a natural setting outdoors. Arizona has so many beautiful options from the mountains as a backdrop to cactus framing you. If you want your headshot outside make it early in the day before the sun is high in the sky.
  • Product promotions and branding: summer, fall and winter clothing, props, wigs, services etc.   If the photoshoot requires an on-location setting all the same ideas apply regarding time of day, shade at least for between shots. An experienced photographer can shoot in high noon sky but the setup can take a little while so don't stress the model. They need to look fresh and crisp.
  • With wedding high season around the corner now is also a good time to plan for that special gift to your spouse. Specifically boudoir. It's such a nice gift and most of the time a complete surprise. Some boudoir can be taken outside but for the most part it's an indoor activity!
Hope these tips help with your photoshoot planning. Enjoy the weather and plan to avoid the heat.
